HandTalk is a prototype gadget intended to help improve the communication process with the deaf. It was presented at the Meeting of The Minds Expo at Carnegie Mellon University Center.
The idea came from the fact that not all people are fluent with the use of sign language.
The device is a glove which is able to detect motion and gestures using a sign language then translate them into an audio. The translated motion can be played through a cell phone or any other mobile device. The HandTalk works with the Gesture Recognition Platform for Deaf Users. The said platform has just been loaded with a special mobile software that can perceive 32 words. Since the project is still on its developmental stage, further progress can be expected.
